Sunlight Operations

E-Paper Display (EPD) utilizes a TFT backplane with ITO electrodes. Typically, TFTs experience current leakage under direct sunlight illumination, which can result in the inability to hold charges when the power (Vcc) remains ON and pixel data is lost due to the leakage. As soon as this effect occurs, the user will be able to discern a blurred or decayed optical quality image. It is important to note that the EPD must remain powered on during driving for fast (or partial) updates (less than one second). In situations where the EPD is operating under direct sunlight with fast/partial updates, the image quality may become blurry and degraded. If the EPD screen is refreshed by a global update (the default, which takes 2 to 3 seconds), this issue will not arise.
